Abbott: Lingo biowearable for athletes

Abbott announced its Lingo consumer biowearable for athletes at CES this year.

The company designed Lingo to track key signals in the body such as glucose, ketones and lactate to help people better understand their general health. The sensor technology measures actionable data to help track and measure general health and wellness.

“This will be like having a window into your body,” Abbott CEO Robert Ford said during his keynote speech at CES 2022. “It’s science that you will be able to access any time so you can understand what your body is telling you and what it needs. Our vision is that Lingo will go far beyond today’s wearables for consumers to help you proactively manage your health, nutrition and athletic performance.”

Lingo builds off of the company’s sensing technology platform that it pioneered in 2014 for people living with diabetes with the FreeStyle Libre glucose tracker, according to Abbott.

Abbott designed Lingo to measure biomarkers beyond glucose to track ketones continuously to see how fast users are getting into ketosis, and lactate sensing to track continuous lactate build-up during exercise to indicate athletic performance.
