Molex today announced the opening of a new campus in Katowice, Poland, for Phillips-Medisize, its medical device contract development and manufacturing organization subsidiary.

The facility has 23,000 m² of manufacturing space, and Molex plans to later expand the facility to as much as 85,000 m².

Molex — owned by Wichita, Kansas-based Koch Industries — said it has invested $110 million in the campus. It will initially support Phillips-Medisize with production of pharmaceutical, medical and diagnostic devices.

The first facilities on the campus will have around 350 employees at planned capacity, including highly skilled production operators, design engineers and quality specialists, Molex said..

“The Katowice campus will expand our European footprint, providing our pharmaceutical, diagnostic and medtech customers with new capabilities and the expert support they need to bring innovative new products to market,” Phillips-Medisize SVP and Molex Medical and Pharma Solutions President Paul Chaffin said in a news release. “This ultimately allows us to further our vision of enabling patients all over the world to live healthier, more productive lives. We look forward to becoming an active part of the local community, as we work together to create significant value for our customers, our new team members and ultimately patients.”

The new facility will be the first to win Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for both Molex and Phillips-Medisize.

ISO 13485 certification is pending completion of construction, with additional certifications and registrations to follow, the companies said.

Molex’s electrification business will also manufacture interconnect battery solutions for electric vehicles and high-power busbar solutions at the site.

Phillips-Medisize already had European manufacturing operations in Donegal and Sligo, Ireland; Struer, Denmark; Trhove Sviny, Czech Republic; and two locations in Kontiolahti, Finland.
