Former Zimmer Biomet executive has a new job

Carrie Nichol, the former chief accounting officer of Zimmer Biomet (NYSE:ZBH), has a new job outside of the medtech industry.

Nichol, who also served as vice president, controller and principal accounting officer at Zimmer Biomet, is now a VP and controller at Minnetonka, Minnesota-based Cargill.

Her departure was among the many notable medtech executive moves of 2021, and her destination wasn’t clear until recently.

Nichol left Zimmer Biomet in November after two years with the Warsaw, Indiana-based medical device company, which she joined in 2019 after serving as SVP, controller and chief accounting officer at pharma giant Endo International.

Fresh off positive reimbursement news for its Zio remote external electrocardiogram monitoring device, the CEO of iRhythm Technologies (NSDQ:IRTC) doesn’t just have revenue on his mind.

Integer Holdings makes additions to its executive team

Integer Holdings today announced that it has appointed three new executives to its leadership team.

The appointments come as part of a planned transition due to retirements. Margaret Cathy is being promoted to senior VP of quality and regulatory affairs; Andrew Senn is being promoted to senior VP of strategy and business development and McAlister Marshall is was named senior VP and general counsel, chief ethics and compliance officer and corporate secretary.

Cathy replaces Joseph Flanagan who announced his retirement from the company in December. She previously served as the company’s VP of quality and regulatory and has been with the company since 2004. Prior to joining Integer, Cathy was a quality and regulatory leader for the European Region at Sola International, which is now Carl Zeiss.

CES 2022: Medical technologies you need to know

Over 2,200 companies from around the world exhibited at this year’s CES. Nearly a fifth — 417 — were digital health companies.

Wearables continue to an important role at the event, which remains hybrid virtual and in-person amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There were 276 fitness and wearables exhibitors this year, 56 more than last year.

This year also marked an important first for the health tech space, with Abbott CEO Robert Ford presenting the first healthcare keynote at CES.

FDA postpones some inspectional activities amid Omicron surge

The FDA announced earlier this week that it made some temporary changes to its inspectional activities as a result of COVID-19.

With the Omicron variant of the virus causing surges across the world, the FDA implemented the changes in the U.S. on Dec. 29, 2021 to ensure the safety of its employees and the firms it regulates, according to a news release.

Through Jan. 19, 2022, the FDA plans to continue mission-critical work while postponing certain inspectional activities with the aim to restart those activities as soon as possible. Mission-critical foreign inspections will continue with plans reassessed as needed based on the monitoring of foreign travel conditions, the agency said.

FDA also confirmed it is postponing the planning of prioritized surveillance foreign inspection assignments that were scheduled to begin in February 2022. Mission-critical domestic …

Ring Precision Components, New Vision Industries and Dieco combine into The Producto Group

Culper Capital Partners announced that it acquired Ring Precision Components, New Vision Industries and Dieco.

As a result of the acquisition of the Ring Precision, New Vision and Dieco, Culper has formed its first control platform, the Producto Group, according to a news release. Ring Precision and Dieco were sold as part of a corporate carveout from The PMT Group, while New Vision was acquired from its majority shareholder, Culper said.

Through Ring Precision and New Vision, the Producto Group will serve as a contract manufacturer and a provider of precision tooling and components for a wide variety of industries, including the medical, semiconductor, aerospace, and defense markets. Dieco will serve as the company’s distribution arm, providing custom springs, die springs, accessories, die sets and other components.

VitalPath acquires Modern Catheter Technologies

VitalPath announced today that it acquired catheter delivery system developer Modern Catheter Technologies.

The Roseville, Minnesota-based company said in a news release that the acquisition builds upon its acquisition of VitalDyne in March 2021.

Maplewood, Minnesota-based ModernCath’s microcatheter expertise brings added strength to VitalPath’s services in the neurovascular, coronary and peripheral market segments, the company said.

“ModernCath is a strategic addition to expand and scale the VitalPath platform,” VitalPath CEO Randall Sword said in the release. “ModernCath’s strength in the neurovascular and electrophysiology markets complements VitalPath’s expertise in the structural heart and peripheral markets. MedAcuity appoints new COO, VP of engineering

MedAcuity announced today that it appointed Karl Pessinis as its COO and promoted Tony Carter to VP of engineering.

Pessinis joins Westford, Massachusetts-based MedAcuity having most recently served as managing director at All Covered (Konica Minolta Technology Services), responsible for New England.

His experience ranges across other technology services leadership roles as he has also provided management consulting to companies similar to MedAcuity, according to a news release.

Carter joined MedAcuity in 2017 as a program manager and eventually moved up to director of engineering, MedAcuity said. His new role as VP of engineering hands him the responsibility of overseeing the company’s software and quality engineering teams.
