Exton, Pennsylvania-based West designed the Daikyo Crystal Zenith 2.25mL insert needle syringe system as a technologically advanced cyclic olefin polymer containment and delivery system that offers an alternative to glass, mitigating the risk of breakage and reducing the chance of particulates, contamination and extractables.

Gilead Sciences, Merck near the top of Newsweek’s most responsible companies list

A handful of big names in drug discovery and development are among the 500 “most responsible,” according to Newsweek.

The outlet published its “America’s Most Responsible Companies 2022” list, marking the third installment of the compilation (in partnership with Statista), this time expanded to include 500 of the largest public corporations around. Companies were judged with an overall score out of 100 that combined assessments on environmental, social and corporate governance performance.

Gilead Sciences (NSDQ:GILD), Merck (NYSE:MRK) and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) were among the pharmaceutical companies to land a spot in the top-500, with a number of other drug development, pharmaceutical processing and manufacturing companies included.

The highest-ranking company was Gilead in sixth, landing an overall score of 89.9 points (90.6 environmental, 81.1 social and 98.2 corporate governance).

West Pharmaceutical Services beats Street in Q3, raises guidance

West Pharmaceutical Services (NYSE:WST) shares rose slightly today on third-quarter results that topped the consensus forecast.

The Exton, Pennsylvania-based company posted profits of $175.6 million, or $2.31 per share, on sales of $706.5 million for the three months ended Sept. 30, 2021, more than doubling its bottom-line on sales growth of 28.9%.

Adjusted to exclude one-time items, earnings per share were $2.06, 26¢ ahead of Wall Street, where analysts were looking for sales of $687.1 million.

Medtech stocks help boost S&P rally

Medtech stocks helped the S&P 500 Index reach record highs today amid a bounceback from the lows of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reuters reported that medtech played its part in the record turn of the market, with Abiomed (NSDQ:ABMD), Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (NSDQ:REGN) and West Pharmaceutical Services (NYSE:WST), all of which are involved in developing COVID-19 therapeutics, all rising more than 50% since the index’s previous record high before the pandemic in February.
