As it does every year, this past week, the American Diabetes Association convened its Scientific Sessions to bring together leaders in the diabetes space.

At last year’s event, next-generation technologies from the big hitters took the spotlight. The 83rd iteration this past week produced a range of new studies, product updates and positive news for a number of technologies and innovations. Study shows health equity impact from Virta Health diabetes reversal platform

Virta Health announced that real-world data for its diabetes reversal platform demonstrated narrowing gaps in care.

The company shared its data at the American Diabetes Association’s 83rd Scientific Sessions. The research highlighted its impact on health equity. It demonstrated significant health improvement and medication reduction for members in the most and least disadvantaged U.S. neighborhoods.

Virta said diabetes disproportionately affects racial and ethnic minorities and those living in low-income areas. Additionally, those with financial hardships prove more likely to receive prescriptions for diabetes drugs that are older and harder to manage due to affordability and access. With complex regimens, these lower-income patients have a higher likelihood of hospitalization and severe diabetes complications.

The biggest stories from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) 2022 Scientific Sessions

For the 82nd time, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Scientific Sessions convened to highlight all the innovations within the diabetes technology space.

Major players like Dexcom, Medtronic, Abbott and more continue to plug along, while companies like Bigfoot Biomedical, One Drop and others shared data backing the technology that they bring to the table.

The data showcased at ADA supported the usual continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and automated insulin delivery (AID) technology, plus different digital health platforms and diabetes reversal procedures.

BTIG analyst Marie Thibault wrote in a report that there was plenty of buzz on the ground at the event, particularly around Insulet’s Omnipod 5 AID system, Abbott’s recently FDA-cleared FreeStyle Libre 3 CGM and Bigfoot Biomedical’s Bigfoot Unity platform.

Virta Health reports positive results from diabetes reversal study

Virta Health announced today that its diabetes reversal treatment demonstrated improvements in those with type 2 diabetes.

San Francisco-based Virta Health launched in 2017 with a goal of reversing Type 2 diabetes using its technology platform to enable personalized remote care. Virta’s offerings include physician supervision, health coaches, an app and biomarker tracking tools, as well as a personalized nutrition plan for its patients in the hopes of reversing Type 2 diabetes.

Virta Health touts triple-digit growth with insurers as market shifts toward diabetes reversal

Virta Health announced today that it now works with more than 20 national and regional health plans, marking triple-digit growth.

San Francisco-based Virta Health, which develops type 2 diabetes reversal technology, has now grown 133% year-over-year with large insurer customers that now offer its treatment to self-funded employer groups, including Humana and Providence Health Plan.

Virta Health raises $133M Series E for diabetes reversal tech

Virta Health announced today that it raised $133 million in a Series E equity financing round led by Tiger Global.

Virta Health touts study of treatment preventing progression to Type 2 diabetes

Virta Health announced today that a study of its diabetes progression prevention treatment proved more effective than initially expected.

Peer-reviewed research in Nutrients highlighted the fact that only 3% of trial participants progressed to Type 2 diabetes, while over half achieved prediabetes reversal during the first two years, according to a news release.
