5. GI Scientific: ScopeSeal distal end protective device
GI Scientific received FDA clearance in October 2019 for its ScopeSeal duodenoscope protective device that protects the distal end.
The protective device is meant to protect the distal end from contamination during endoscopic cholangiopancreatography procedures. It is a single-use device that seals the infection-prone distal end of a duodenoscope by attaching to the end and reducing biomatter soiling during use. It seals the passageway and allows instruments to be passed through the duodenoscope and into the GI tract.
The device is cleared for use with Olympus’s TJF-Q180V duodenoscope.
