Xoran Technologies announced today that it received FDA 510(k) clearance for its TRON computed tomography (CT) X-ray system.
Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Xoran designed TRON as a truly mobile, full-body fluoroscopy CT X-ray system with a compact size and no need for bulky motors and batteries.
The system takes less than one minute to make scans and the system is easy to use and can be mobilized by placing it in small vans, meaning Xoran’s vehicle-based solutions can be used for community health initiatives and in ambulance and military front-line scenarios, according to a news release.
“When Xoran states that TRON is the ‘One RING to rule them all,’ we truly mean that this compact, mobile, open-bore device is poised to revolutionize global initiatives to democratize access to diagnostic imaging,” Xoran CEO Misha Rakic said in the release. “TRON is uniquely suited to provide safe, ultra-high-resolution, low dose imaging in traditional settings such as the operating room, surgery center, and critical care unit where space is limited, and hospital budgets are stretched thin.”
Xoran also announced that it has begun work on the second phase of its mobile lung grant aimed at confirming the safety and utility of a future thoracic point-of-care CT system in support of a submission to the FDA. The efforts on research and development surrounding lung CT are supported by a recent grant award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) through the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
