NEWS RELEASE: Trelleborg Exhibits Innovations in Medical Device Components at MD&M West

Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical will exhibit advanced polymer solutions for healthcare and medical applications at MD&M West in Anaheim, California, February 7-9, 2023, in Booth 2301.

On display will be Trelleborg’s advanced capabilities in thermoplastic injection molding, drug-eluting devices, tubing, braided hose, molded parts, multicomponent and micromolding offerings, as well as its rapid development expertise which can reduce manufacturers’ time to market. Trelleborg will also display rubber products from newly acquired Minnesota Rubber & Plastics (MRP) and discuss the synergies and capabilities resulting from this merger.

Andrew Gaillard, Global Commercial Director of Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical, says: “At the show we will introduce some enhanced capabilities available thanks to our acquisitions, EirMed and MRP. Now part of the Trelleborg family, these acquisitions strengthen our ability to partner with customers on projects involving thermoplastic and rubber injection molding, assembly, and packaging.

“Attendees can also learn about our new offerings for bioresorbable polymers, materials used for implantable medical devices. Once treatment is complete, they are absorbed by the body and do not need to be removed, making treatment less invasive and shortening patients’ recovery time and hospital stays.”

Additionally, attendees can find out more about Trelleborg’s Rapid Development Center (RDC) which helps customers expedite their new product development process, minimize production costs, and ensure superior-quality products.

Chris Tellers, Director of the RDC, says: “We partner with some of the world’s largest medical device companies to develop solutions across a range of categories, including cardiovascular, diabetes, and neurology. Since launching the RDC in August of 2021, we have shipped over 29,000 parts and completed 79 tools. We have also completed thermoplastic tooling projects, offered machined parts when appropriate, and can turn around projects in a matter of days when speed is important.”

Another highlight will be Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical’s extensive selection of specialty extruded tubing and braided hose products. Tubing is available in a full range of sizes and is custom designed with customers to meet their individual application needs.

According to Gaillard: “We engineer novel extrusion solutions for our customers’ specific tubing applications. Examples include multi-lumen, silicone foam extrusions, and kink-resistant tubing for a variety of critical applications, such as pacemaker and neuromodulation leads, and urological implants. Our GeoTransTM technology enables the production of extrusion profiles that can change throughout the length of the extrusion, supporting unique, customer-specific designs. We are also expanding our Northborough, Massachusetts facility to enable flexible manufacturing solutions and add capacity for silicone extrusion and molding.”

Also on display will be molded parts used in implantable healthcare and medical devices alongside multicomponent and micromolding capabilities.

Gaillard adds: “One of our most well-accepted capabilities is the combination of Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) with plastics. Commonly referred to as 2C or 2-shot, multicomponent injection molding enables our LSR experts to employ highly sophisticated tools and process engineering to develop innovative solutions that combine two or more individual materials into one fully bonded, robust component.”

Attendees can also visit MRP at booth 2827 to learn about the innovations and capabilities the company brings to Trelleborg.
