J&J’s DePuy Synthes has its own major product launch this year: its Velys table-mounted knee robot, which received FDA clearance in January. J&J acquired the Velys technology from its developer Orthotaxy in 2018. The company boasts that Velys is a first-of-its-kind, table-mounted robotic ortho surgery system with an efficient design that can integrate into any operating room — a plus as more procedures move to ambulatory care centers.

Other planned 2021 launches include:

  • A dual mobility system addition to DePuy Synthes’ Pinnacle acetabular cup system. The Pinnacle dual mobility system is modular and combines the Pinnacle acetabular cup system and the Bi-Mentum dual mobility polyethylene liner. The goal is enhanced stability hip construct.
  • A 2.7 mm variable-angle locking compression clavicle plate system to treat lateral, shaft and medial fractures for small-, medium- and large-stature patients.
