Trelleborg starts construction of Costa Rica manufacturing facility

NEWS RELEASE: Trelleborg Breaks Ground on New Facility in Costa Rica Plymouth, MN, February 2024 – Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical is breaking ground on a 107,600 square feet/10,000 square meter manufacturing facility in Costa Rica with construction scheduled to be completed in 2025. The facility will be in the Evolution Free Zone Industrial Park in the Alajuela Province in the town of Grecia. The decision for the new site is driven by Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical’s strategic goal to help customers consolidate their value chains, reducing overall costs. As the company’s first facility in Central America, it will facilitate supply chain continuity through a global manufacturing and distribution base and support key customers in nearshoring production. Trelleborg plans its first production facility in Costa Rica

NEWS RELEASE: Trelleborg invests in new healthcare & medical facility in Costa Rica

Trelleborg has decided to invest in a new production facility in Costa Rica for medical technology solutions. The new facility will be established close to a number of international customers with operations in the region. On completion, the facility will offer a full product suite of engineered polymer solutions within healthcare & medical.

Covering an area of 10,000 square meters, the production facility will be Trelleborg’s first in Central America and is expected to be completed in 2025. The Group will invest approximately SEK 225 M in total between 2024 and 2025.

Dip molding and dip coating each have advantages and drawbacks for medical device manufacturing.

Dip molding and coating involve immersing an object into liquid silicone and either forming or coating a component.

These methods can contribute to the success of a medical device project when correctly specified for an application. Component and contract manufacturers that understand customer requirements and align their manufacturing capabilities to them will have the greatest success with these dipping techniques.

Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical announces a substantial investment to expand its European biopharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities in Malta. This follows a multimillion-dollar investment initiated in 2022 to expand biopharma capacities in North America.

Linda Muroski, President of Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical, says: “The site will initially add over 4,000 square feet of cleanroom space and focus on silicone tubing and braided hose with options to extend capabilities in the future. Trelleborg to show off advanced polymer tech at MD&M Minneapolis

Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical will exhibit advanced polymer technologies for medical applications at MD&M Minneapolis, which runs Nov. 2–3, 2022.

The Sweden-based engineering polymer giant, which has operations in 50 companies, has newly acquired, advanced capabilities in thermoplastic injection molding. The new injection molding capabilities come from its purchase of Menomonie, Wisconsin–based EirMed earlier this year.

Trelleborg will also highlight its drug-eluting capabilities, tubing and hose, and molded parts. In addition, there are multicomponent and micromolding offerings.
