The Philips Azurion with ambient experience and FlexVision. [Image from Philips]Philips (NYSE: PHG) + issued an urgent field safety notice regarding its Allura and Azurion image-guided therapy systems.

The notice warns of an issue that may occur due to forces applied during the movement of the C-Arc for Allura and Azurion. Philips’ image-guided therapy systems may experience loosening or breaking in their FlexMove carriage as a result. Cracks may also occur in the FlexMove carriage.

If FlexMove rail fixation bolts become loose or broken, cracks appear and a range of issues may occur. That includes the stopping of the C-Arc’s transversal movements due to false collision detections from additional friction. The issue may also disable manual movement because of the added friction. Abnormal noise, unstable suspension and falling of the C-Arc may also occur.

Study backs Philips’ direct-to-angio stroke pathway

Clinicians use the neuro suite for stroke treatment. [Image courtesy of Philips]Philips (NYSE: PHG) + announced today that a published analysis supports its stroke care pathway.

Amsterdam-based Philips had results of the health economic analysis published in the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery (JNIS). Data demonstrated that the company’s approach to stroke care reduced costs by an average of $3,120 per patient.

Philips’ retrospective analysis looked at data from the controlled, single-center ANGIOCAT clinical trial. Investigators at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital Stroke Unit (Barcelona, Spain) conducted the study. Earlier results showed that a “direct-to-angio suite” pathway also improves clinical outcomes for patients who suffered a stroke.

Medtech jobs: The world’s largest medical device companies are hiring

Medical device companies are trying to fill thousand of medtech jobs. [Photo by ijeab – stock.adobe.com]

The world’s largest medical device companies are still hiring for medtech jobs despite layoffs in tech and other industries.

Medtech developers — and medtech jobs — are resilient, with the industry’s COVID-19 pandemic performance only bolstering its recession-proof reputation.

That’s not to say there haven’t been job cuts in medtech, led by thousands of layoffs at Philips as it struggles with a massive recall of deadly respiratory devices. But most medical device manufacturers are still hiring, and in some cases they can’t attract enough candidates to fill every vacancy in a tight labor market.

Stryker, for example, grew to approximately 51,000 employees as of the end of 2022, increasing its headcount by nearly 11 percent last year. Boston Scientific reported nearl…
