Nelipak garners recognition for sustainability efforts

Nelipak announced that it received a Silver Medal from EcoVadis in recognition of its sustainability efforts.

According to Cranston, Rhode Island-based Nelipak, EcoVadis is a trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. It built its methodology on international sustainability standards. Those include the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and the ISO 26000.

The Silver Medal rating achieved by Nelipak comes from the EcoVadis Sustainability Scorecard. That evaluates performance across 21 indicators in four themes: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

Nic Hunt, senior director and head of global sustainability at Nelipak, said in a news release that the company now sits in the top 20% of surveyed companies. Nelipak Healthcare Packaging plans its first US flexible packaging facility

Nelipak plans to open a new flexible packaging production site in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Cranston, Rhode Island-based Nelipak makes rigid and flexible packaging for medical devices, pharmaceuticals and other demanding applications.

The 110,000-square-foot facility will be a brand-new Class A industrial building. It’s expected to open in late 2023. The property will be built out to Nelipak’s specifications for healthcare packaging production, including ISO 13485 certification and ISO-7 clean room space.

It’s the company’s first flexible packaging site in the Americas. Nelipak’s flexible packaging products currently come from three European production facilities.

Nelipak Healthcare Packaging receives ISCC Plus certification

Nelipak today announced that two of its North American facilities have received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus certification.

The packaging manufacturer created a mass-balance model for sustainable packaging at the facilities — in Phoenix, Arizona and Whitehall, Pennsylvania — said Nic Hunt, senior director and head of global sustainability at Nelipak.

“Increasing the use of sustainable packaging solutions is a top priority for many of our customers,” Hunt said in a news release. “Working with our supply chain partners, Nelipak has collaborated to increase the use of recycled content.”

Nelipak expects to expand the mass-balance model to its other sites across North America and Europe.

ISCC Plus is a globally recognized third-party certification system for tracking recycled and bio-based materials through the supply chain, Nelipak said.
