MTD Micro Molding marks 50th anniversary

MTD Micro Molding announced that it is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The company, founded as a small tool and die shop in Richard J. Tully’s Charlton, Massachusetts, home’s basement, now functions in plastics manufacturing to help medical OEMs in a 16,500-square-foot facility in Charlton.

Charlton, Massachusetts-based MTD Micro Molding, was later run by Richard Tully’s son, Denis Tully, who took over in 2008 when the former retired, offers both micro tooling and micro-molding in-house, enabling customers to get their micro components to market faster. The company’s focus was narrowed even more under Dennis Tully, now centering around medical micro molding.

The company’s growth over the years under Dennis Tully — who passed away unexpectedly in 2019 — led to a building expansion in 2021, resulting in an increase in medical manufacturing capacity and new services, including custom assembly and packaging solutions.

MTD Micro Molding holds grand opening for facility expansion

MTD Micro Molding recently held a ribbon-cutting and grand opening for its expanded medical micro injection molding facility in Charlton, Mass.

The May 27 event enabled industry partners and community leaders to tour the new space.

The company in the fall completed the exterior of the 11,700 ft2 expansion, which roughly doubled cleanroom manufacturing space to 27,450 ft2. Since then, the company has focused on finalizing details, moving equipment, and getting new cutting-edge machinery in place.

“When laying out the new space, we did it strategically to ensure project flow and tracking, improving timing and efficiency,” said John Clark, MTD’s tooling & molding specialist who oversaw the completion of the expansion project.

MTD Micro Molding is a single-source manufacturer for ultra-precise micro medical components. Company officials saw the expansion as critical to enable customers to achieve faster speed to market.
