Heraeus Medevio appoints new president

Heraeus Medevio announced that it appointed Heiko Specht to take over as president of the company from Dr. Peter Reimer.

The appointment went into effect on July 1. Specht has held a number of roles at the contract development manufacturing organization since joining in 2000.

His roles include a number of R&D and business leadership positions. Most recently, as chief commercial leader, he oversaw Heraeus product and portfolio management sales and marketing. That included responsibility for the overall business strategy.

As president, Specth will utilize his experience in strategic leadership, growing market share and continuous improvement at Heraeus.

Heraeus acquires Norwood Medical

Heraeus Holding announced today that it has purchased Dayton, Ohio–based Norwood Medical.

Norwood Medical and its more than 1,100 employees make high-precision components in three key medical device markets: minimally-invasive surgery, orthopedics and robotic-assisted surgery.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Norwood Medical will continue to operate as a standalone business and retain its company name and management team.

“When we began discussions, it was evident that Norwood checked all the boxes: an experienced team, an outstanding innovation culture and a track record of manufacturing excellence. We are very confident we can accelerate their growth and penetrate new markets around the world,” Heraeus Holding CEO Jan Rinnert said in a news release.

Heraeus Medical Components opens new Collaboration Hub outside Minneapolis

Heraeus Medical Components recently announced that it has opened a new nearly 67,000-square-foot Collaboration Hub in the Minneapolis-St. Paul medtech cluster.

The Collaboration Hub — a completely new location near the Heraeus’ existing Fridley, Minn. facility — is meant to provide the company’s customers with the opportunity to work on-site with Heraeus Medical component R&D experts. The Collaboration Hub has a test lab, clinical simulation lab, training lab, machining room and pilot production capabilities.

Heraeus Medical Components — which is part of the Hanau, Germany–based Heraeus Group — has completed the move-in of technical experts, pilot production lines and R&D equipment.
