Report: Fujifilm to expand vaccine production plant in England

Fujifilm (TSE:4901) has reportedly spent big to double the size of its United Kingdom-based vaccine manufacturing facility.

The Financial Times reported that Fujifilm is spending about $532.8 million (£400 million) to expand its Teesside (north-east England) plant that is making the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine, transforming it with factories specializing in antibody treatments and viral gene therapies.

Fujifilm (TSE:4901) has reportedly spent big to double the size of its United Kingdom-based vaccine manufacturing facility.

The Financial Times reported that Fujifilm is spending about $532.8 million (£400 million) to expand its Teesside (north-east England) plant that is making the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine, transforming it with factories specializing in antibody treatments and viral gene therapies.

According to the report, builders have already begun construction on one facility, while the land for the other remains undeveloped to this point. FT said the facilities are set to open in 2023 with up to 350 highly skilled jobs to be created in contract manufacturing.

Fujifilm integrates two of its medical businesses

Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. and Fujifilm Healthcare Americas announced last week that the two companies have merged.

Now operating under the name Fujifilm Healthcare Americas Corporation, the new combination of organizations aims to bring together the strengths of each company’s product portfolios and employees to create new value for customers and advance medical care, according to a news release.

Fujifilm picks up 10-year contract from U.S. Navy for digital radiography systems

Fujifilm Medical Systems has been awarded a long-term sole-source contract from the U.S. government for its digital radiography (DR) systems.

Lexington, Massachusetts-based Fujifilm confirmed last month that the U.S. Navy and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) awarded it the 10-year contract to outfit Naval Fleet vessels with its DR x-ray room systems.

Fujifilm’s DR x-ray room systems include next-generation detector technology and a high-quality, compact, floor-mounted room with all of the latest features. The company anticipates the initial DR system delivery and installation will occur for a new U.S. navy ship later this year.

The Navy selected Fujifilm’s DR system on the back of a two-year evaluation and comparison with competitive technologies. The company was selected as the singular vendor that best met or exceeded the Navy’s standards and criteria, it said.

Fujifilm wins CE mark for rapid COVID-19 antigen test

Fujifilm (TSE:4901) today announced that it received CE mark approval for its antigen test kit to detect COVID-19.

The rapid diagnostic test detects SARS-CoV-2 infection. It uses the company’s silver application immunochromatography method that is based on silver amplification technology used in the photo developing process.

Fujifilm said that the antigen test is highly sensitive with the silver amplification immunochromatography method and can rapidly detect the presence of COVID-19 at an early stage and in a view of a relatively low viral load.

Fujifilm Diosynth lands $265m to produce COVID-19 vaccine

Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies announced that its College Station, Texas, site will manufacture a COVID-19 vaccine candidate under a $265 million federal contract.

The contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for biologics, viral vaccines and gene therapies said it received the federal task order through the Texas A&M System Center for Innovation in Advanced Development & Manufacturing (CIADM), a public-private partnership between  the government’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) and the university. CIADM subcontracts manufacturing to the Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies’ owned-and-operated flexible biomanufacturing facility in College Station. The task order reserves manufacturing at the plant capacity in through the end of 2021.
