Forest Devices touts study of stroke detection tech

Forest Devices this week touted study results for its AlphaStroke technology for identifying patients with large vessel occlusive (LVO) strokes.

Pittsburgh-based Forest Devices, one of MassDevice’s 2020 medical device startups you need to know, designed the AlphaStroke platform to detect stroke and LVO, offering first responders the ability to use the system to triage patients so that they go to the right hospital.

In the EDGAR study, which had its results published in the American Heart Association Journal, STROKE, AlphaStroke was 28% to 40% superior compared to clinical exams currently used by medics to make triage decisions when it came to correctly identifying patients with LVO.

Additionally, AlphaStroke proved to be equally as effective as the clinical exams in correctly ruling out patients with non-LVO diagnoses, according to a news release.

MedTech Innovator picks 50 startups for accelerator program

MedTech Innovator today announced the 50 startup companies it selected for its flagship four-month showcase and accelerator program.

The accelerator program awards up to $500,00 in cash and in-kind prizes during its final competition at The MedTech Conference, led by AdvaMed.

According to a news release, the virtual program is set to begin on June 25 when leadership from each of the 50 companies will participate in the MedTech Innovator Summit, collaborating with MedTech Innovator’s partners and participating in virtual networking events and workshops.

A 30-company subset will participate in the accelerator program, receiving in-depth, customized mentorship and support. MedTech Innovator said the acceptance rate for the competitive program was just 3%, with pitches from 190 companies evaluated out of more than 1,000 applications across 45 countries.
