MedTech 100 roundup: Another high as stocks tick up

For the third consecutive week, stocks in the medtech industry reached heights not yet seen since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

MassDevice’s MedTech 100 Index — which includes stocks of the world’s largest medical device companies — sat at 89.65 points at the end of last week (Aug. 7). Overall, medtech stocks saw a 0.72% increase from the 89.01-point total at the same time a week prior (July 31).

On Aug. 5, the index reached 90.45 points, marking its highest point since that pre-pandemic high, with the previous mid-pandemic high (90.37) coming last week.

The most recent high mark represents just a -2% dip from the Feb. 19 high point of 92.32, marking the smallest margin of decline over the past five months.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 Index saw a 2.5% increase from July 31 to Aug. 7, and the Dow Jones Index fared even better, positng a 3.8% rise over the same period of time.

MedTech 100 roundup: Markets skid after strong stretch

Following a strong performance over the last couple of weeks, the medtech market experienced one of its most significant drop-offs in recent months amid investor worries over a rise in COVID-19 cases in some states.

MassDevice’s MedTech 100 Index — which includes stocks of the world’s largest medical device companies — sat at 82.12 points at the end of last week (June 12). That total represents a -6% decrease from the 87.37-point total at the same time a week prior (June 5), highlighting a significant drop from one of the strongest stretches the medtech market had seen since the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 Index experienced a -4.8% decrease from June 5 to June 12, and the Dow Jones Index fared even worse with a -5.6% increase over the same period of time. The drop-off is stark compared to this time a week ago, when both indexes saw sizeable growth — rising 3.14% and 6.81%, respectively.

Medtech 100 roundup: Stocks dip slightly after strong start to month

Medtech stocks ticked down over the course of last week as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to bear economic ramifications.

MassDevice’s MedTech 100 Index — which includes stocks of the world’s largest medical device companies — sat at 82.4 points at the end of last week (May 15). That total represents a -1.9% decline from the 83.98-point total at the same time a week prior (May 8).

The lowest point during the pandemic remains at 62.13 on March 23. Since then, medtech stocks have experienced 32.6% growth in total. However, they are still down -10.7% since the index’s pre-pandemic crash high point of 92.32 on Feb. 19.

Compared to the S&P 500 Index, which experienced a -2.2% increase from May 8 to May 15, the medtech index took a similarly small dip. The Dow Jones Index suffered even more with a -2.6%  decline over the same period of time.
