Some of those treatments involve insulin, which was discovered as a treatment for diabetes in 1922 and remains a vital part of the standard of care. However, while many medtech companies look for ways to make insulin accessible and efficient in treating diabetes, others are innovating treatment avenues outside of insulin. Regardless of the path chosen, all have created intriguing options for managing and treating diabetes. Here are seven innovations in diabetes treatment that are worth keeping an eye on:

MedTech 100 roundup: Industry climbs with earnings season in full swing

The medtech industry remains on the upswing as companies see their stocks rising with quarterly earnings providing a boost.

MassDevice‘s MedTech 100 Index — which includes stocks of the world’s largest medical device companies — finished last week (July 30) at 118.86 points. Two weeks ago aside — when the index shot up to 145.88 points and quickly tumbled down — this mark would be the index’s all-time best.

The total at the end of last week represents a 2.9% rise from the 115.54-point tally posted by the index at the end of last week (July 23).

Medtech’s performance continues to reflect an overall rebound from the struggles brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, too. The industry has registered a 28.7% increase from the pre-pandemic high of 92.32 (set on Feb. 19, 2020). Moreover, it remains well ahead of the mid-pandemic low of 62.13 (March 23, 2020) as well, totaling a 91.3% ascent above that point.

The industry’s performance had no cor…

MedTech 100 roundup: Return to normal after last week’s spike

After rising more than 31 points to heights never before reached, the medtech industry returned to normal this past week.

MassDevice‘s MedTech 100 Index — which includes stocks of the world’s largest medical device companies — finished last week (July 23) at 115.54 points, a total that, had it not been for last week, would be the index’s all-time high.

However, the index finished the previous week (July 16) at 145.88 points, a remarkable 27.1% rise week-over-week, registering by far the greatest increase the index has seen since its inception — and perhaps an anomaly. Although the index slid by -20.8%, it remains in a stronger position than ever before, last week notwithstanding.

Medtech’s performance continues to reflect an overall rebound from the struggles brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, too. The industry has registered a 25.2% increase from the pre-pandemic high of 92.32 (set on Feb. 19, 2020). It remains well ahead of the mid-pandemic low…

Dexcom CEO Kevin Sayer says G7 will be ‘wonderful’

As we enter what may be the “new normal,” Dexcom’s CEO bets the company can pave the way in continuous glucose monitoring.

Dexcom (NSDQ:DXCM), like any company seeking to innovate, remains in a state of perpetual forward motion.

That’s the way chair, president & CEO Kevin Sayer views it, anyway. As the company looks toward the future, the G7 continuous glucose monitor is the next big thing.

San Diego–based Dexcom’s latest iteration of its CGM system — building on the G6, which first won FDA approval in 2018 — has inspired plenty of optimism, both within the ranks of Dexcom and likely among customers, too.
