Stryker (NYSE:SYK) announced today that it unveiled its “OR of the Future” model operating room at its Flower Mound, Texas facility.

The Kalamazoo, Michigan-based company aims to provide a one-of-a-kind interactive OR experience. It allows customers to conceptualize new OR design and technology.

Stryker constructed the model with patient safety and OR uptime in mind, according to a news release. It enhances protection against infection and increases cleanability, the company said. Stryker also employed intelligent technology and time-efficiency components in its OR model.

“Some of the challenges hospitals face in maximizing safety and uptime of their ORs are very complex and require new thinking about design, workflow and future-proofing,” said Tommy Van Galder, VP and GM of Stryker’s communications business. “We’ve learned a lot from our 30 years of OR planning, design and installation experience, plus a rich legacy of product innovation, to evolve OR design and integration.”

About the ‘OR of the Future’

The company integrated a range of software and equipment into its “OR of the Future.” It features the Stryker iSuite and Advanced Digital Healthcare portfolios. This allows it to drive predictable and repeatable OR staff behavior to improve workflows.

Additionally, its design features enhancements in sterility. The model includes materials and methods designed to support infection prevention and cleanability. This includes laminar flow and the elimination of Velcro.

The technology offers more personalized care with continuous, actionable data and insights from devices. Its pre-built ceilings and walls offer time- and cost-saving capabilities during construction. Stryker said this could make the OR patient-ready sooner. The model also features future-proofed design elements, such as modular wall panels.

“The floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall experience of the OR of the Future showcases best-in-class products and what a partnership looks like with Stryker as your integrated OR provider,” said Van Galder. “This is about showing how high-performing ORs can look, feel and perform—and working together with you to establish realistic goals, timelines and deliverables that make that a reality.”
