Putnam Plastics headquarters expansionMedical extrusion firm Putnam Plastics Corp. has completed the construction of a 57,000-square-foot addition to its headquarters in northeast Connecticut.

Dayville, Conn.–based Putnam, which makes advanced extrusions and assemblies for minimally invasive medical devices, will have new extrusion lines in the clean manufacturing space as well as braiding and coiling machines to make reinforced catheter shafts.

Putnam plans to hire more than 100 people to staff the facility expansion. Before starting construction, the company said it had nearly 400 employees.

Owner and CEO Jim Dandeneau founded the medical catheter extrusion company in 1984 and moved into its 38,000-square-foot facility in Dayville four years later. In 2013, Putnam built its 93,000-square-foot headquarters nearby, increasing total manufacturing space to approximately 130,000 square feet.

Putnam started the newest expansion in June 2020.

“This space will allow us to increase our capabilities in manufacturing as well as product development,” Putnam Plastics CEO Jim Dandeneau said in a news release. “We are committed to meeting our customers’ need to quickly develop complex components for life-saving devices.”

Putnam makes multi-lumen, coextruded, braided, coiled, wire-coated, bumped/tapered and intermittent extruded tubes, as well as complex catheter shafts and complete catheter assemblies.
