Need adhesive expertise for your medical device application? Master Bond technical professionals can help.

By Master Bond

Master Bond is a leader in the design, formulation and manufacture of epoxy adhesives, sealants, coatings and potting/encapsulation compounds for the assembly of both disposable and reusable medical devices. Special formulations are biocompatible and resistant to various sterilization methods. Products offer designers and manufacturers of medical devices the level of reliability and performance essential for the many different operating conditions encountered in use.

Master Bond’s product line includes epoxies, silicones, cyanoacrylates, and specialty solvent based systems. These compounds can be cured at ambient and/or elevated temperatures or upon exposure to UV or LED light. Certain grades of Master Bond products fully meet the USP Class VI and ISO 10993 requirements. Medical grade adhesives, sealants, coatings and potting/encapsulation compounds need to be non-toxic and show compatibility with blood and body fluids. Additionally, they must be biologically inert. U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) Class VI and ISO 10993 (Cytotoxicity) are two standard tests used to determine their suitability.

Master Bond EP42HT-4AOMed Black and the legacy product EP42HT-2Med are biocompatible, two-part epoxy adhesive systems that can be used as encapsulants in wire-bonded, chip-on-board microelectronic assemblies. Read this case study to see how these biocompatible epoxies were utilized for medical device manufacturing.

Master Bond polymer compounds can simplify and enhance the performance of many critical medical devices. Particular formulations offer high physical strength properties and outstanding chemical resistance even when applied on dissimilar or difficult to bond materials. Additionally, selected products retain their desirable performance upon exposure to various sterilization procedures including autoclaving, radiation, ethylene oxide as well as cold sterilants. These products assure optimal performance even upon exposure to severe environmental conditions, as well as contact with a wide variety of fluids and occasional abuse. Each adhesive product varies in viscosity, hardness, chemical resistance, thermal stability, electrical insulation and optical properties. Specific grades are formulated to be optically clear, non-yellowing, flexible, and dimensionally stable.

Systems are available in convenient packaging from small to large sizes. Master Bond provides one on one personal technical support and will recommend the product that will optimally match the specific design requirements of any medical device.
