Masimo (Nasdaq:MASI) announced today that it launched its Stork at-home monitoring system for babies.

Irvine, California-based Masimo designed Stork to offer parents insights into their baby’s health data. It could help them learn more about and be better connected with their baby, Masimo says.

“When we set out in 1989 to reinvent pulse oximetry, we named the project ‘Stork’ because our hope was that this technology would help reliably bring healthy babies home to their parents,” said Joe Kiani, founder and CEO of Masimo. “With Stork’s introduction today, we’ve taken our passion for newborn care and our innovative and groundbreaking technologies to craft a solution that we hope will give parents greater insights into their babies and help them live healthier lives. Parenting is the hardest thing one loves to do.

“With Stork, our goal is to improve the parenting experience through a seamless, thoughtful integration of advanced and trusted health technologies that bring real data to parents.”

More about the Masimo Stork system

Kiani explained that Masimo designed Stork so parents and babies can stay connected when not next to one another. He said Stork provides “the highest quality data” so parents can be vigilant and learn more about their children.

Masimo plans to offer the Stork monitoring ecosystem in multiple configurations. That includes Stork Vitals+, the flagship solution, which consists of a boot with sensor, video camera and a mobile app. The boot, made from an ultra-soft, medical-grade silicone, conforms gently on the baby’s skin. It comes in three sizes to ensure a good fit and can grow with the baby up to 18 months old.

In the boot, embedded sensors monitor oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse rate and temperature. Stork also features a 2K QHD-capable, high-resolution camera with a mobile app. This enables nighttime vision and two-way audio, letting parents talk to the baby. The camera also provides room condition monitoring, reporting temperature, humidity and noise levels.

All this connects to the Masimo Stork app. It allows parents to see data and milestones and view summaries of averages and trends. The company plans to soon offer image-sharing capabilities, too.
