GE HealthCare and Philips (NYSE:PHG) recently announced developments in the area of AI-powered imaging technology.

SIGNA Experience, a GE HealthCare platform including four technologies, helps users through their diagnostic journey. It aims to ensure the smoothest MRI scanning experience for physicians, technologists and patients.

The platform features an intuitive user interface for high-quality MRI, according to a news release. Its deep-learning AI algorithms, including AIR Recon DL, seek to improve signal-to-noise ratio. They also offer improved image sharpness and a shorter scan time, GE HealthCare said.

Automated intelligent workflow technologies and AIR coils offer further improvements in the MRI experience. SIGNA’s workflow allows technologists to keep track of progress at a glance. Its visually-assisted highlighted fields guide them step-by-step and intelligent automation highlights the most likely action following a scan.

“Today, we are thrilled to announce a new platform of transforming technologies to complement our exciting MR portfolio,” said Jie Xue, President & CEO, magnetic resonance, GE HealthCare. “SIGNA Experience was designed in response to today’s industry pressures, to help achieve operational efficiency and simplicity, as clinicians face a significant volume of non-urgent backlog scans caused largely by the impact of COVID-19, radiologist shortages & staff burnout, as well as today’s growing disease burden.

“These technologies enable scanner operators of all skill levels to get the job done without compromising quality and output.”

Philips unveils smart imaging portfolio

Amsterdam-based Philips has plans to reveal a range of technologies at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago this week.

Those solutions include the Philips Imaging Orchestrator – ROCC (radiology operations command center) and Philips Ultrasound Collaboration Live. Both seek to pioneer the virtualization of radiology. The former offers a vendor-neutral, multi-modality, multi-site telepresence solution. The latter allows teams to securely video stream from ultrasound systems to a PC or mobile device for remote access.

Philips also plans to introduce AI-enabled image interpretation technology for prioritizing patient worklists. The Philips Advanced Visualization Workspace offers features that automate reporting and help drive earlier and more definitive diagnoses. The Philips Enterprise Performance Analytics – PerformanceBridge – improves operational decision-making to help improve productivity and reduce costs.

Other technologies include the AI-powered MR SmartSpeed, Spectral CT 7500 and the Ultrasound Compact 5000 series.
