Formlabs has hired Guillaume Bailliard as president of the 3D printing company’s healthcare business.

Somerville, Massachusetts-based Formlabs announced the news today, but Bailliard’s LinkedIn page said he’s been in the role since June.

He was previously CEO and president of medtech developer ControlRad, North American president for imaging device manufacturer

“3D printing in healthcare is an exciting opportunity that can streamline workflows, enable precision healthcare, and improve patient outcomes. Formlabs has been at the forefront of this innovation, with solutions that have enabled the industry to capture the benefits of 3D printing technology,” Bailliard said in a news release.

Bailliard will build out the newly formed healthcare division, create a global growth strategy spanning product development and go-to-market planning, and lead growth in the medical and dental industries.

“With his background working with healthcare leaders as well as early-stage startups, Guillaume can address the unique challenges of advancing Formlabs’ 3D printing in these markets,” Formlabs CEO Max Lobovsky said in the news release.

Formlabs sees opportunity in the fast-growing market for 3D printing in healthcare as medical device developers and manufacturers — and even healthcare providers — find new and innovative ways to use additive manufacturing for prototypes, components and fully finished products. Formlabs sells a variety of biocompatible and sterilizable 3D printing materials for stereolithography (SLA) and selective laser sintering (SLS) print engines. The company also has FDA-registered, ISO 13485 certified manufacturing facilities.

Formlabs said it has sold more than 25,000 healthcare 3D printers, making it the most installed 3D printing company in the market.

“Formlabs is a driving force in advancing 3D printing adoption in the healthcare sector, pioneering materials and solutions that enable the industry to innovate and improve patient care,” Lobovsky said.
