DymaxDymax has released a new line of light-curable adhesives for wearable medical devices, saying they’re the first of their kind to pass ISO 10993-10 for sensitization and irritation.

Torrington, Connecticut-based Dymax — which develops rapid and light-curable materials, dispensing equipment and UV/LED curing systems for the medical device industry and others — said its new 2000-MW series adhesives are free of TPO and made without IBOA, a known skin irritant.

“Removing materials of concern with the introduction of the 2000-MW series of products is our first step toward the elimination of problematic ingredients,” Dymax Medical Global Business Development Director Mike Ford said in a news release.

The company said typical applications include continuous glucose monitors, large volume injectors, patient monitoring devices, pain management devices and other devices worn in close proximity to the skin.

The adhesives are designed for bonding SS, PC, PI, PVC, TPU and low-surface-energy substrates, and are “engineered for reliability with excellent adhesion and aging performance,” the company said in the news release. The 2000-MW series cures with broad-spectrum light energy and some products provide durable protection during autoclave sterilization.

The new adhesives are environmentally friendly, one-part formulations, solvent-free, and meet ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity biocompatibility requirements, the company said. Fluorescing grades are available for high-speed automated vision systems used for quality control purposes.
