Becton Dickinson BD Veritor PlusBecton Dickinson (NYSE:BDX) announced today that it entered into an agreement with ImageMover to offer a mobile app for COVID-19 testing.

Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based Becton Dickinson’s agreement enables the ImageMover software platform to simplify medical data collection and management through a companion mobile app for SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing performed on the BD Veritor Plus system, according to a news release.

The ImageMover app is being made immediately available for BD Veritor Plus system customers as the tests are used at everyday locations like schools and businesses.

BD Veritor Plus has built-in functionality to allow for data sharing to electronic health records through the company’s BD Synapsys informatics platform, which requires an information technology infrastructure commonly seen in healthcare facilities. The collaboration with ImageMover allows for seamless and secure data sharing for everyday locations that don’t have a healthcare information technology platform in place.

“The ImageMover app helps resolve a major administrative reporting burden for ‘return to normal’ testing and further strengthens the advantages of using a digitally read test like the BD Veritor Plus system,” BD president of life sciences Dave Hickey said in the release. “From handheld portability to a simple workflow to a definitive digital readout of results that eliminates human subjectivity and now an automated reporting tool, the BD Veritor Plus system provides the simplicity needed for novice testers.”

According to BD, the ImageMover app differs from the company’s previously announced collaboration with Scanwell Health to create an antigen test to be paired with Scanwell’s mobile app for at-home use. Scanwell’s app is expected to provide instructions on collection and transfer for nasal swab samples and sample analysis at home, while ImageMover’s still requires the use of the BD Veritor Plus system.

“ImageMover has pioneered a highly secure mobile solution for managing the end-to-end workflow for point-of-care COVID-19 test administration and result management,” ImageMover chief clinical officer Laura Brown said. “Now, organizations without sophisticated information systems can more easily manage the data associated with testing from anywhere and across any care setting with the BD Veritor Plus system. With ImageMover, these non-acute organizations now have a solution that automatically submits test results to public health authorities. In addition, we securely share test subject results with the individuals directly.

“We are excited to partner with BD to increase access to a comprehensive testing solution for organizations struggling with point-of-care testing today.”
