Karios Technologies’s Tissue Shield is a technology designed to prevent scar tissue formation on the heart following surgery.
After a heart attack, scar tissue forms on the damaged heart muscle as part of the body’s repair system, according to a 2020 study by the National Institutes of Health. Some people develop larger scars after a heart attack than other and people with larger scars are at a higher risk of other heart problems. Research has shown that reducing scarring after heart damage could improve healing.
